Description

The SJRA Woodlands Division owns, operates, and maintains over 121 miles of water lines that are 12 inches in diameter and larger, of which over 48 miles installed between 1973 and 1995. To maintain the high level of service expected by the residents of The Woodlands, SJRA is taking a proactive approach to asset management by identifying and replacing aging infrastructure before the end of its useful life.

Many of the oldest water lines in the system were installed during this time period, SJRA is developing a strategy to evaluate their remaining service life. This strategy includes a desktop analysis of existing data (such as break history), previous studies and reports, data collection, field and laboratory testing, and engineering analysis.

The outcome of this project will be a prioritized list of water line replacement projects by location, along with a replacement schedule. The project scope includes desktop analysis, destructive and non-destructive testing, and the necessary work to access water lines for sample collection and evaluation. SJRA, HDR, and associated vendors will be conducting field assessments on various segments of water line infrastructure throughout The Woodlands.
