Description
The SJRA Woodlands Division owns, operates, and maintains over 121 miles of water lines that are 12 inches in diameter and larger, of which over 48 miles installed between 1973 and 1995. To maintain the high level of service expected by the residents of The Woodlands, SJRA has taken a proactive approach to asset management by identifying and replacing aging infrastructure before the end of its useful life.
SJRA contracted with HDR to complete a water line condition assessment in 2024-2025 to evaluate existing water line condition and risk, and to develop a recommended prioritization list for water line replacement projects. Based on the results of this analysis, HDR identified and recommended seven near-term water line replacement projects for prioritization over the next 10 or so years. The Town Center water line replacement project will be the first of these projects to move forward through design.
Initial design of the Town Center water line replacement project began in September 2020 and later placed on hold pending results of the water line condition assessment. The Town Center project scope was extended following completion of the condition assessment to include a portion along Lake Front Circle and modified to account for water line relocation due to potential widening of Grogan’s Mill Road in the future. Design completion is anticipated in January 2027.
