Description
The force main identified for renewal in this project begins at LS No. 21 south of Grogans Mill Road and continues north where it runs parallel to Grogans Mill Road until discharging to a manhole at the intersection of Sawmill Road and Grogans Mill Road. The force main is approximately 40 feet from the shoulder of Grogans Mill Road. The force main is approximately 2,600 linear feet in length and is a 6-inch ductile iron pipe. The resulting data from the force main condition assessment show that this section of force main has lost approximately 70% of its original thickness and is at high risk of structural collapse.
This project will identify the most efficient way to renew the force main and minimize any disturbances to the surrounding area and to the wastewater service. A preliminary evaluation will review different options feasible for this force main, and the engineering consultant will make a recommendation based on the most efficient option. The evaluated options can include rehabilitation or complete replacement of the force main along with cost estimates for each alternative. Survey and SUE will need to be completed to determine any easement acquisition or coordination that may be needed during the construction of this project. Once an option is selected, it will go into final design where coordination with utilities and other entities will occur to ensure proper communication on the project’s construction extent and timeline.
