Description

The SJRA Woodlands Division provides wholesale water and wastewater services to customers in The Woodlands, Texas. SJRA operates and maintains 30 lift stations throughout the sewer distribution network in The Woodlands, including Lift Station No. 24. The current Lift Station No. 24 site includes two wet well lift stations and a control/generator building. During Hurricane Harvey in 2017, the entire site flooded to a water depth of approximately 4 feet. Following Hurricane Harvey, the generator, the main breaker and several of the MCC sections were redone to repair the flooded items, including soft starters and relays. After this historic flood, SJRA began to consider future flood mitigation strategies for the site.

The proposed lift station improvement project will include consolidation of Lift Station 24A with Lift Station 24B, demolition of the existing control building, and construction of a new elevated control/generator platform and/or building above historic flood level. In 2025, SJRA entered into a Project Partnership Agreement (PPA) with the USACE Galveston District to assist with funding this project through congressional appropriation. The PPA is structured with a 75% Federal and 25% SJRA Woodlands Division funding contribution split. Preliminary design is scheduled to begin in October of 2025.
