Description

The City of Houston is currently performing a project to add new spillway gates to increase the controlled release capacity of the Lake Houston dam. The goal of this Joint Reservoir Operations Study is to determine the most efficient and safe operation of Lake Conroe and Lake Houston in series once the new gates are installed. The study will evaluate the feasibility of prereleases including impacts on water supply. The study will also develop a forecasting tool for Lake Houston and support development of the gate operations policy for the proposed Lake Houston dam gates. The cost of the study is estimated at $1,000,000. City of Houston and City of Humble (the Partners) have each agreed to fund a portion of the fifty percent local match ($500,000) required by the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) grant SJRA has received for the study. SJRA is performing in-kind services in an effort to reduce the local match amount to be funded by the Partners. The remaining fifty percent ($500,000) of the study cost will be funded by grant funds.
