When you turn on the faucet or flush a toilet, you probably don’t think about the infrastructure that makes those everyday conveniences possible. Miles of pipelines, pumps, treatment facilities, and other infrastructure work together behind the scenes to deliver water and safely transport and treat wastewater. Making sure that infrastructure is there when it is needed, and planning for what comes next, is an important part of SJRA’s work.
Nabeel is a Project Manager 1, where he helps plan, coordinate, and manage the projects that support the division’s raw water, potable water and wastewater systems. His work covers projects from the earliest stages of an idea through construction and completion. That can include multi-disciplinary studies, capital improvement projects, and major maintenance projects designed to keep existing infrastructure operating reliably and prepare the system for future needs.
From an Idea to a Completed Project
A project manager’s work can look very different from one day to the next. Nabeel may spend one day attending a progress meeting with a project team and visiting a construction site, and the next coordinating with engineering consultants, helping launch a new project or working with SJRA staff to determine what projects should be planned for years down the road.
He also helps coordinate the process for upcoming projects, including making sure opportunities for Statements of Qualifications are posted in a timely manner so SJRA can identify and work with qualified engineering firms and other professionals. Another important part of his role is helping SJRA’s operational divisions maintain their 10-Year Project Plans. These plans provide a long-term look at the improvements and investments that may be needed across SJRA’s water and wastewater systems. Planning that far ahead helps the organization identify priorities, anticipate future needs and make informed decisions about infrastructure.
Planning Today for Tomorrow’s Water Needs
The Woodlands is a growing community, and maintaining dependable water and wastewater services requires more than simply keeping today’s infrastructure running. It requires looking ahead. SJRA’s Woodlands Division is responsible for providing reliable raw water, potable water and wastewater services to the community. That means planning for infrastructure needs before they become problems and making sure projects are carefully coordinated from concept to completion.
Nabeel’s work is an important part of that process. Whether he is coordinating a consultant, visiting a project site, reviewing project needs or helping develop long-term plans, the goal remains the same: to support reliable, high-quality water and wastewater services for the residents and businesses of The Woodlands. Much of this work happens long before a new pipeline is installed or a construction project begins. It is the planning, coordination, and engineering that helps ensure SJRA is prepared to meet the community’s needs today and in the future.

It takes engineers, operators, project managers, consultants, maintenance professionals, and many others working together to keep SJRA’s systems moving forward.
Nabeel is one of the people working behind the scenes to make that happen. His work may not be something customers see every day, but it helps ensure that when a resident turns on a faucet, flushes a toilet or relies on the community’s water and wastewater systems, the infrastructure is there to support them.
