This time of year means storm season for southeast Texas, and the San Jacinto River Authority (SJRA) is working to help keep our community informed and prepared.  This summer, SJRA gave presentations at Montgomery County Commissioner Precincts 1, 3, and 4 to raise awareness about essential weather monitoring tools and resources.

The goal?  To train Commissioner Precinct offices on how to use two key tools:  Know Your Watershed (KYW) Address Viewer and Harris County Flood Control District’s Flood Warning System (FWS).  By doing so, SJRA aims to help precinct offices better assist residents who call before, during, or after a storm.

Key Tools for Weather Awareness:

Know Your Watershed (KYW) Address Viewer

KYW Address Viewer is an interactive online tool designed to help users:

  • Identify their watershed;
  • Understand where water flows in their area; and
  • Access important facts about the San Jacinto River Basin.

Using the KYW Address Viewer is as easy as typing in your home or business address, just like any mapping application on your mobile device.

Flood Warning System (FWS)

FWS helps users monitor rainfall and weather conditions in real time by:

  • Locating nearby rain gages;
  • Viewing up-to-date and historical rainfall data; and
  • Signing up for rainfall alerts.

Stay Informed, Stay Safe

In addition to KYW and FWS, SJRA encourages the community to follow trusted sources:

  • Your local Office of Emergency Management;
  • The National Weather Service; and
  • Local weather stations.

These partnerships are part of SJRA’s ongoing effort to deliver consistent and reliable weather awareness messaging across Montgomery County.

For more resources and updates on how to be weather aware this storm season, follow SJRA on social media and be on the lookout for any of our weather-related content.

SJRA is grateful to have the opportunity to partner with local Commissioners on weather awareness to help keep our community educated and prepared.
